Almost 100 Miatas and their drivers got together to enjoy the excellent weather, sunny in the mid 80s, to Zoom Zoom around Eagle Canyon Raceway and tour through our North Texas backroads!

The Lone Star Miata Club of Dallas/Fort Worth is proud to be hosting the Texas Miata Roundup on the 25th Anniversay of Miata production. More than one 25th Anniversary edition Miata has been purchased by our members and we expect them to be at the Roundup. Y'all to come up and get a look at them. Of course, the Roundup is not just for Texans! We are hoping to see Miatas from all the nearby states and wouldn't it be nice to see come Canadians, eh?

Denton, TX, north of DFW has been selected as the official site for the Roundup. It is a marvelous venue for the Roundup. Winner of the Great American Main Street Award, Listed as One of the 100 Best Places to Live by Livibility, and #1 Best Small Town in America by Business Insider, Denton is home to something to interest everyone. From Microbrewies and a unique local musical style to highly rated horse ranches Denton has something to keep everyone happy when not hitting the local roads in a Miata! Come for the Roundup ... come back again to see what you missed. One weekend in this town will not be enough!

The dates have been set. Mark your calendars and plan to come to North Texas:   October 23rd thru 26th, 2014.

Hotel Information

We have made arrangements for people to have discounts at the following hotels, all of which are clustered together on 35E just south of the merge of 35E and 35W in Denton. Coming up from Dallas, take exit 162 for hwy 288 to McKinney and the hotels are right there. Coming up from Ft. Worth, take the Dallas exit in Denton at the merge and follow 35E back down to exit 163 State School Rd, circle back and follow the feeder road up to the hotels. We will have our contact desk set up at the Hilton, but all the hotels are within the same parking complex. People coming up from San Antonio, Austin and points south (like Corpus!) will find it easier to take the Ft. Worth side of 35 instead of the Dallas route.

Half-Day Runs

We plan the following half-day (4 hours or less) runs Saturday.

Horse Country Run (9AM-12PM)
Driving Directions
North Texas is home to some of the best horse ranches west of the Mississippi. We plan to drive through the premire area north east of Denton. This run will have some of everything North Texas has to offer for rides; lake views, horse views, cattle views, scenic vistas, flowing plains, Miatas, etc.

Wine Run (12:30-4:00PM)
Driving Directions
There are several very good local wineries located near Denton. This run will visit the Blue Ostrich winery on the day of their Hallo-wine party. There will be music and food trucks on site. The Arche winery is nearby and will be visited also, time permitting. Both wineries are in St Jo west of Denton. Each driver is expected to be careful with their tastings.

Ghost Bridge Run (1:00-4:00PM)
Driving Directions
It's almost Halloween, so we've thrown in a spooky ride. The Old Alton Bridge is well known to locals for the stories of the ghost of the 'Goat Man' who was murdered there. On the way there, we will be learning more about the local ghosts in the downtown area, stopping for malts and shakes at Mr. Frosty, then continuing on some of the best kept secret roads in North Texas on the way to the bridge.

Full Day Runs

We plan to provide the following Full Day (6 to 8 hours) runs

Friday: Nacona and Points North
Driving Directions
Those that do not want to spend the day at the track, will tour the area north of Denton and stop to eat at the Times Forgotten Steakhouse for lunch.

Saturday: Denison and Points North East
Driving Directions
Return Driving Directions
Some great roads leading through horse and farm country will be toured and a stop will be made at the Loose Wheels Restaurant for lunch.

Banquet Dinner
The banquet will be held Saturday night at the Hilton Gardens Inn.

Photo Safari
We have identified a group of locations in and around Denton to visit and take pictures, for those that want to have a little extra fun. There will be clues to these locations available at the check-in desk and here on the web site after the Roundup begins.

Prizes will be awarded depending on the number of participants.

The Miata Wave
Everyone knows that Miatas are a really fun car to drive. It's a Universal Truth. This makes their drivers happy and generally a very friendly bunch. The obvious result of all this happiness is that Miata drivers tend to wave at other Miata drivers and even drivers of other convertibles. When a Miata's top is down and it's driver sticks their hand up and waves out the top of their car at someone, this is 'The Miata Wave'. You will see this activity happening on roads throughout the country.

Not only does The Miata Wave make the person waving feel better, but the other driver generally feels better immediately too and waves back. The initial result of all this waving will be the beginning of 'Miata Envy', which is when drivers of other cars start to wish they were in a Miata too. I know this is starting to sound like a popular commercial, but Miata Envy leads to more people buying Miatas, which leads to more members in our clubs!

So everyone seize the moment, spread the joy and practice The Miata Wave at every opportunity!
