7-01-2017Loose Wheels DrivePlease respond promptly as I need to make restaurant reservations as soon as possible. We will meet for breakfast at Rising Sun Café, 3101 Unicorn Lake Blvd, Denton TX 76208, at 8 AM. We plan to leave Rising Sun by 9 AM for a brief stop at Classic Mazda. If you can not meet us for breakfast you can meet at us at 9 AM at Classic Mazda, 4984 Interstate 35 South Service Road, Denton TX 76208. We will depart Classic Mazda at 9:30 AM. After 160 miles of twisty roads we will eat a late lunch at Loose Wheels in Denison about 3 PM. Along the way we will cross the bridge at Carpenter's Bluff. Since they are building a new bridge right next to Carpenter's Bluff bridge this may be one of your last opportunities to cross it. Some history of this bridge is copied below: Carpenter's Bluff is said to be named after a Red River ferry operator by that name. The town dates from about 1860. After the Civil War, the town was briefly known as Thiefneck after the unsavory characters that congregated there. Rather than apply for a post office under that name, the townspeople decided to clean house. The Kansas, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway constructed the bridge. Later it became property of the Texas and Pacific Railroad. The bridge became joint property of Grayson County, Texas, and Bryan County, Oklahoma, in 1966. Bruce Gibson 940-367-3572
7-04-2017Fourth of July paradeJohn Nagely has once again invited club members to join this neighborhood parade in what has become an annual tradition. After the parade, John will lead a short ride through Fort Worth to lunch at a restaurant to be determined. John says: I have driven the Route around Lake Worth. It will probably take an hour and a half or so. I suggest we eat at Press Cafe or somewhere right after parade and then head up to the east side of Lake Worth and end at either the Point on Lake Worth for a Beverage or the Sonic in White Settlement. I could shorten the route around the lake a little, Map is rough estimate New part in Pink Originally left from Joe T Garcias Green scratched out. Lower part with the parade not on this old map. We could just get a snack at the Press Cafe and have lunch at "The Point" Also Fred's has a new location on Blue Bonnet Circle not far from where the Parade ends. Some of the other Parade participants are going to RJ Gators. Please contact John at 817-991-3939 if you have questions.
